Introduction to Research Skills and Professional Development

Induction session for all new doctoral researchers in their first month at UCL, and Supervisors.

This 90-minute induction aims to prepare new doctoral researchers to take active role in their research and professional development.

Participants will be introduced to the Researcher Development Framework and Self Evaluation Tool: both providing a useful guide to navigating the knowledge, skills and attributes expected from today’s researchers.

The session will also include an introduction to the Doctoral Skills Development Programme and the Research Student Log, showing how they can aid researchers in maximising their potential and research experience whatever their intended career paths. Specific guidance will be given in identifying both areas of relative strength and areas to be developed, taking an evidence-based approach to the development of both.
