Gut Reaction

This snapshot depicts the relationship between human intestine cells and the underlying architecture that gives our gut its distinctive shape. Here we see a break in the lining of intestinal cells that may be our gut’s reaction to disease situations such as infections (for example with E. coli) or inflammation (for example with gluten intolerance). The carpet of cells is shown in pink while the underlying matrix is coloured in taupe. Food particles are illustrated in a purple tone while bacteria are highlighted in green.
