The Future History

This is a volumetric environment reconstruction produced using livestream data of Tokyo. This research speculates on the future of our information system using livestream technologies, where every moment in every corner will be archived and processed in real-time. It tries to inverse the negative value metrics of media surveillance into a utilisable and systematic communication device that spans across borders. This has great potential in disciplines such as forensic sciences, and most importantly, in understanding the consequences of our own events and planning for our future accordingly. This image has been post-produced using an artificial neural network called StyleTransfer to accentuate the aesthetic of this virtual reality. This research problematizes the notion of history, which is the art of narrating past events. What will be the future of our urban environment if every single event is preserved to such accuracy that there will be no room for his-story?
