Western blotting is a common laboratory technique used for specifically detecting tiny amounts of a protein of interest. The protein appears in different patterns as a black band on a photographic film. If accidentally exposed to light, the photosensitive film turns yellow and the image is lost. On the other hand, small traces of protein cannot be detected and result in a blank film. Other times, experiments are ruined by something hardly explainable.
