In microfluidic channels, fluids flow in parallel layers and mixing occurs solely by diffusion between the layers. This property is illustrated in this photograph of a microfluidic chip, where red and blue dyes run along in the channels and exit to form the famous Rolling Stone logo on the top of the chip.
