Perl's staining of liver parenchyma in iron overload mouse model
Miss Monica Mascarenhas Perl's staining of liver parenchyma of mouse model of hereditary hemochromatosis. The most common form of Hereditary hemochromatosis is caused by a mutation in the Hfe gene. The main clinical manifestations of the disease is iron overload in the liver. In the image we can see the portal triad consisting of the hepatic artery, the hepatic vein and the bile duct. Perl's stain the hemosiderin accumulated in the liver cells, in this case in the hepatocytes around the portal vein.
