Research Images As Art 2006 Gallery

Skully critters

Mr Erwan Le Martelot, Electronic & Electrical Engineering

"EvoCritters" is a project that lies between art and science. In this project, abstract, random images, driven by an 'artificial life' computational system, evolve in response to the autonomic reactions of arousal of a human subject. The work not only is a graphical representation of evolution itself, with the human subconscious acting as 'natural selection', but also extends our current understanding of human aesthetics and human-computer interaction.
The image presented here is a snapshot of a real-time video sequence generated by "EvoCritters", designed and developed for the purpose of merging interests in art, neuroscience and computer science.
This image is pure abstraction, one is free to see in it what one wants...
