floating feelings / the switching off moment

Nannette Jackowski, Bartlett School of Architecture

What means freetime today? Freetime is the opposite of Work but nowadays there is no clear definition, there are no borders. Often your brain is stimulated during your work in the same way as during your freetime. Everything is purposful planned and defined. This is forced freetime for me because you have to take this organized time. I think the real freetime is the time which is remaining, the time where you feel the real enjoyment. There are very short moments where you are free in your mind. There is no activity, there is nothing! You close your eyes and enjoy, you switch off and drop down slowly, you drift along – absolutely quietness – no resistance – you dream, you relax… These extremely rare but wonderful moments I tried to describe by the means of bubbles. A bubble as a synonym for dreams and a bubble like a protection cover which you build up between yourself and your environment. The bubbles seem to fly, they move at a space which seems never-ending. You can´t predetermine how long the bubbles glide or how big they will become. You can´t organize or control it. It´s always different.
